剧情介绍 埃尔文将军曾经参加过海湾战争并因出色的军事战略才能而显赫一时三星将领，因为一项错误的指控被军事法庭扒掉了军衔，投入守卫极为森严的军事监狱。
监狱的典狱长温特上校素以严酷的铁腕政策而著称，起初，埃尔文对这位富有传奇色彩的上校颇为崇敬，但在埃尔文表达出他对典狱长管理方法的不满之后，这种崇敬就演变成了一种敌意和仇视。埃尔文与腐败的典狱长开始了公开的对峙，日趋激烈的对峙最终引发了一场声势浩大的越狱行动：埃尔文指挥着自己招募起来的“新军”——1200多名狱友，掀起了推翻典狱长统治的大战。
一群曾被宣判为“再也不是军人”的囚犯，在监狱里，要证明自己依然能像勇敢的士兵那样战斗。所以，这场越狱行动不仅关系到他们的自由，更与他们曾视为生命的荣誉息息相关。
幕后花絮 这部影片的主题是军人即便被关进大牢，他们的军人本色仍然不变，他们仍然誓死保卫军人的荣誉和品格。不过编导在歌功颂德的面具下埋藏颠覆性的隐喻，如对人的控制欲的探讨，揭露权力的威慑和腐败等。该片的形象比喻太多、太明显，如这个古堡监狱，不仅用来营造气氛，而且也可以暗示将军和典狱长的两虎之争跟古代的武士相争有着某种雷同。跟《肖申克的救赎》相比，同样是监狱片，同样试图刻画人性中的某些本质，《肖申克》能抓住观众的心，而《对垒风暴》较难引起共鸣。
